Ron
Daniel is a Principal at Taxonomy Strategies
LLC. Dr. Daniel is an expert on XML industry
standards and an active member of the XML and
metadata standardization communities. In addition
to co-editing the original Dublin
Core metadata specification, he has chaired
the PRISM (Publishers Requirements for Industry
Standard Metadata) working group (prismstandard.org),
served as the acting chair of the XML Linking
working group, participated as a member in the
RDF working groups, and has co-edited several
other specifications including PRISM, XPointer,
and three RFCs for the Internet Engineering
Task Force.
Before becoming a partner at Taxonomy Strategies,
Ron was a Standards Architect at Interwoven,
representing the company in industry standards
bodies such as the W3C and OASIS. He came to
Interwoven in November 2002, when Interwoven
acquired Metacode Technologies for its technology
and know-how in automatic classification, metadata,
and taxonomies. He was Senior Information Scientist
at Metacode, where he played a major role in
defining the main product, MetaTagger. Prior
to Metacode, Ron was a technical staff member
at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he
worked on a variety of projects focused on the
lab's need for a large-scale, long-duration,
information infrastructure. Ron earned a Ph.D.
in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State
University, and was a postdoctoral researcher
at Cambridge University and Los Alamos National
Laboratory.
Kemal
Farid, president & CEO, Merrick Systems
As
CEO of Merrick, Farid directs the strategy of
the business, including product development
and support, and wrote Merrick's original products.
Farid has a background in automated test and
measurement and process control with 20 years
of software development experience and 15 years
in the oil and gas industry. His academic qualifications
include a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
and computer engineering from the University
of Texas at Austin and executive business education
at Rice University and the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology.
Farid is a member of the Society of Petroleum
Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronic
Engineers, Rice Alliance for Entrepreneurship
and Innovation, MIT Enterprise Forum, Young
Entrepreneurs Organization, The Executive Committee
of Houston and the Houston Technology Center
Tech Champions. Farid is also a mentor to students
in the Entrepreneurship program at the University
of Houston and is a speaker at many industry
events. Farid founded Merrick and is a major
shareholder.
Clay
Harter, chief technology officer, Open Spirit
Corp.
Clay
Harter obtained a B.A. degree in Physics and
Geology from Amherst College in 1976 and a M.S..
degree in Geophysics from Stanford University
in 1977. Clay previously worked with the Chevron
Corporation where he gained over 21 years of
experience in a multitude of positions (U.S
and U.K. based) in Exploration and Development
Geophysics for operating companies, conducting
and managing Geophysical R&D, managing IT
support, Upstream architecture, and IT strategic
planning. Clay has been a member of the OpenSpirit
management team since its inception in 2000.
Jeanne
Perdue, editor, Upstream CIO
Jeanne
M. Perdue joined Zeus Development Corporation
as Editor of Upstream CIO newsletter in January
2005.
Perdue formerly worked as Senior Editor of
Hart's E&P magazine, covering the use of
information technology in the upstream oil and
gas industry. Prior to that, she spent 14 years
working as a chemist and information specialist
at Texaco in Houston.
Perdue's responsibilities will include writing
and editing articles about the latest digital
technologies for exploration, drilling, production,
asset management, procurement, knowledge management,
decision support, risk management and corporate
financial reporting in the oil and gas industry.
In addition, she will further develop the subscription
base, increase advertising and develop workshops
and special reports in the area of upstream
computing.
Jeff
Pferd, Sr. VP, Product Development & Delivery,
Petris
Jeff
Pferd is responsible for Product Planning and
Management at Petris. He and individual product
specialists are responsible for setting the
direction of all Petris products and services.
A geologist by training, Jeff has over twenty-five
years of experience in the application of high
technology systems, software, and processes
in the oil and gas industry, with extensive
background in the development, implementation,
and management of technical computer applications
for the petroleum industry. Jeff's previous
industry experience includes senior positions
at UNOCAL where he was Supervisor of E&P
Application Development and Manager of Computing
for UNOCAL's upstream business division. Prior
to joining Petris, Jeff was with Insource Management
Group (IMG), a Houston-based software and re-engineering
consulting firm. Jeff has a Bachelor of Arts
in Geology from Johns Hopkins University, a
Master of Science from the University of Georgia,
and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University
of Massachusetts.
Pam
Weaver, assistant director, Petroleum Abstracts,
University of Tulsa
Pam
Weaver has held various positions within Petroleum
Abstracts since joining the organization in
1974. She is currently Assistant Director, responsible
for customer training, document delivery, and
other administrative tasks. Pam has served as
Chair of the Petroleum and Energy Resources
Division of Special Libraries Association and
as a member of a team studying benchmarking
practices sponsored by the National Federation
of Abstracting and Information Services (NFAIS).
Wanda
Jackson, president, WHL Information Solutions Inc.
Dr.
Wanda Jackson, an experienced IT professional with a variety
of management and consulting skills, is the Founder and
President of WHL Information Solutions, Inc. Her diverse
background includes taxonomy development, project management,
business process development, knowledge management, instructional
design, and training. She also has special interest in,
and has developed techniques for, assessing user information
behavior associated with information overload. Dr. Jackson
has nine years experience crafting Information Technology,
Knowledge Management, and training solutions for the Energy
industry. She also holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information
Science from the University of Texas at Austin and is a
certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Janice
Anderson, CEO, Access Sciences Corp.
Janice
Anderson has over 35 years of experience in the information
management field. In 1985, Ms. Anderson founded Access Sciences
Corporation (originally named Access Information Associates,
Inc.) to provide professional information management services
to business and government organizations. As CEO, Ms. Anderson
actively participates in delivering exceptional quality
and value to our customers by applying her expert information
management skills to client programs and to the Access Sciences
Corporation Information Management Methods. For many years,
Ms. Anderson has been an information management industry
leader by serving as a board member of ARMA Houston, Special
Libraries Association, Technology for All, and by participating
in various other professional and civic organizations such
as AIIM, and the Greater Houston Partnership CEO Roundtable.
She is a frequent speaker with a long list of conference
presentations, white papers, and published articles to her
credit. Ms. Anderson graduated magna cum laude with a BA
from the University of Texas at Austin, and with a Master
of Library Science from Florida State University.
Anne
Tulek, VP professional services, Access Sciences Corp.
Anne
Tülek has 16 years of experience improving how organizations
use their information in a variety of industries domestically
and internationally, including energy, chemicals, utilities,
financial services, health care, manufacturing, and consumer
products. In addition to her involvement with ECM programs,
Ms. Tülek spent many years implementing global data warehousing
and performance dashboard programs. She is a member of ARMA
International, the Greater Houston Partnership, the Institute
of Management Consultants, and AIIM. Ms. Tülek has been
published in Upstream CIO Magazine and has presented at
the 2004 ARMA International conference, the 2005 ARMA Houston
conference, and will present at the upcoming AIIM conference
on the topic of auto-classifications. Anne serves as a board
member and as the Vice President of Professional Services
at Access Sciences Corporation. Ms. Tülek holds a Master
of Business Administration from the University of Texas.
