Day 1: Upstream Taxonomy: Effective Information
Organization
There are several standards bodies dealing with structured
data in repositories, but nearly 80% of the information
used in the upstream oil and gas industry is unstructured.
Engineers and geoscientists need to have and utilize a taxonomy
-- standardized rules for filing information online -- so
team members can actually locate the information they need
in the cyberspace morass. Most companies are attempting
to compose their own taxonomies in-house, and as a result,
there is no standard upstream taxonomy today. This half-day
workshop will present industry best practices for organizing
unstructured information. Who should participate on the
taxonomy team? How do you merge taxonomies of two different
business units or companies? What kind of maintenance do
taxonomies require?
Day 2: Upstream Workflow: Integrating
Applications into a Faster Decision Making Process
Myriads of technical applications have been developed to
address individual tasks performed by upstream engineers
and geoscientists. Today, these separate applications are
being melded together into a cohesive business process using
data standards and open architectures, dramatically reducing
the time needed to reach field development decisions. What
are some of these integration technologies, and how do they
work? How can these tools take disparate systems and link
them together seamlessly so users can do their jobs without
disruption after a corporate merger?
