Today T-Mobile USA introduced the G2, the successor to the very first Android phone launched in the USA, which was known as the G1. The G2, powered by Android 2.2 Froyo, is the first HSPA+ Android smartphone in the world.
The G2 offers a 3.7-inch touchscreen display and a hinge that opens to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. Under its hood, the G2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7230 processor, which powers the HSPA+ capabilities as well as an 800MHz CPU. That clockspeed is a bit slower than today’s high-end phone models which often sport 1GHz processors. When you’re not using the QWERTY keyboard, there’s also the option to use a Swype on-screen keyboard.
The G2 also has dedicated keyboard keys for accessing Google services, and will support Adobe Flash in the web browser.
The G2 also has a 5 megapixel camera that’s capable of recording 720p HD video that can be automatically uploaded to a Photobucket account. There’s also autofocus and LED flash.
For storing music, photos, videos, and more, the device comes with an 8GB microSD card, and it supports up to 32GB of storage. The G2 also has 4GB of internal memory, and sports a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The T-Mobile G2 with Google will be available in the U.S. exclusively with T-Mobile. T-Mobile customers will be able to preorder the device later this month, and can visit http://g2.t-mobile.com for more information. Pricing has not yet been announced.
